Knowledge and Ambition
It is good to have knowledge because it helps people accomplish goals. There is a difference between someone gaining knowledge and those who try to abuse it. Victor Frankenstein had a ton of knowledge on science. He was so determined to create live out of nothing. But as we read the story of Frankenstein, we see how Victor abuses his knowledge. His ambition takes over him and he gets lost in trying to complete this goal of his that he loses everything else.
For example, Mary Poovey in "My Hideous Progeny: The Lady and the Monster, she states "Frankenstein rejects the selfish pursuit [that] had cramped and narrowed him and returns his feeling to its proper objects, his beloved friends. But ironically, the very gesture that disciplines his desire has already destroyed the possibility of reestablishing relationships with his loved ones" (348). Because of his ambition he lost all his loved ones. He got so lost in his ego that it took everything from him. By the time he wanted to reestablish his relationship with his family it was too late. When we're ambitious about something we shouldn't let it control us. It is good to have ambition but there's a certain limit. This Is a valuable lesson for everyone to not get caught up with our ego. We turn selfish, and we end up destroying ourselves and others around us.
